Ever pondered if there were any real-life princesses remaining in this world? There are, but very few, one of these princesses lives in Thailand.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was born Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn Debaratanasuda on 2 April 1955 to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, King Rama IX, and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn commenced her schooling when she was 3 years old, she joined kindergarten with other friends at Chitralada School in Dusit Palace, the private school founded by His Majesty the King where all royal children were not treated differently from any other pupils. From the very beginning of her education, Her Royal Highness developed her scholarly capability, showing aptitude for learning which substantiated her consistent academic progress. Taking on the practice of reading from Their Majesties the King and Queen, and being guided by her own nature to investigate and look for knowledge, she becomes passionately interested in reading and studying Thai and foreign literature. Around the age of twelve, Her Royal Highness started writing proses and poetry. Not only was she keen on academic subjects, she also enjoyed school activities such as sports, music, school fairs and social events.

A scholar of Pali, Sanskrit, Cambodian and several other languages, and a gifted practitioner of traditional Thai musical instruments, Her Royal Highness is currently the Director of the Department of History at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy. She also runs numerous philanthropic organizations and foundations promoting Thai culture and higher education, safeguarding the natural environment, and supporting disabled veterans. The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Foundation, established in 1979, supports needy students in schools, vocational colleges and universities.

In her spare time, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn likes several leisure activities. One of her favorite pastimes is reading which includes her interests in going shopping for books and gathering books in her individual libraries. Her love of reading leads to her natural talent in writing articles, poetry, short stories and travel publications. Earnings from her written accounts of her overseas travels are the main source of revenue of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Foundation which was set up in 1979 to support needy children in schools, vocational colleges and universities.

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn likes playing Thai classical instruments, and practising Thai classical dancing. She sometimes paints. She is also keen on sporting activities : jogging, swimming, biking, and trekking, which give her an opportunity to learn about plants, trees and geographical features of the areas.

Her Royal Highness serves as a model humanitarian. Her loyalty to the Thai Red Cross, and thus her devotion to her people, have indeed made her the royal jewel within Thai hearts, with glowing elegance of her humanitarian actions instilling the warmth of her love in our spirits.
