Mr. William Henry Schulz started this long-standing family business in 1916 just after he graduated from the University of Florida. Polk Nursery started out as a 58-acre fernery that produced asparagus fern for the northern market and eventually grew to become a 200-acre nursery. The William Schulz's son, Ken Schulz, joined the company in 1945. The 2 gallon containerized California Rose bush was their most outstanding development, gaining them world acclaim. The scaling down of the nursery is talking place now, over 90 years since the company was first started.

Among the inventory are Kubota, John Deere and Ferguson Massey tractors, lumber, Great Dane trailers and assorted plants and pots. A complete inventory list is available at higgenbotham.com.
