PFW PA Sells Out WPFW's 35th In A Week. Lead By Robyn Holden The Programmers Prepare To Celebrate At The French Embassy!
Online, March 7, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The host of Wpfw's popular 'Robyn's Place' on Friday evenings, she helped exceed initial Station expectations for the event, selling in one morning the initial total attendance target for the event. Additionally, Ms. Holden's assistance on the last Saturday of the drive (2/25) is credited with helping the already popular Saturday lineup exceed their goals by nearly $10,000.
Recreating their efforts which led to the Fall 2010 drive being among the most successful in recent memory, 'PFW Programmers Association members Miyuki Williams, Robyn Holden and Katea Stitt again mobilized the more than 150 volunteer DJ's in the intricate 'Buddy System' The objective is to create effective on-air pairings of programmers to 'pitch' together during the two week campaign.
"The Winter 2012 Membership Drive was initially lagging slightly behind projections on weekdays. This, we believe was partly due to Station management's insertion of an additional on-air fundraiser during the 2011 Holiday Season, in the face of both programmer and listener admonitions," says 'PFW PA President Jim Brown. "Miyuki and "Robyn's commitment to lend their considerable skills to assist other programs throughout the week - and especially to maximize results on weekend programs, were key to making this regularly-scheduled Winter Drive a success."
With 700 expected, the now-sold out March 10, event (the brain-child of WPFW Community Relations Director and 'PFW Programmers Association member Katea Stitt) will be the first of numerous celebrations throughout the City marking the Station's anniversary. It was decided that the event would serve as the cornerstone of the Winter 2012 Membership Drive, in lieu of the normal array of CD's and books offered as thank you gifts to supporters. Answering radio station WPFW 89.3 FM's station's unprecedented need for financial support, the 'PFW Programmers Association successfully mobilized the corps of on-air dj's in support of the regularly scheduled Winter Membership Drive, which occurred between Sunday, February 12 through Saturday, February 25, 2012.
In addition to suffering the same hardships as many non-profits during this difficult economy, WPFW is facing an eminent re-location due to the planned re-development of its current headquarters in the City Paper Building on Champlain Street, NW within the next 12 months. The 'PFW Programmers Association was organized to help address the struggling station's ongoing financial and internal management issues.
The Winter Membership Drive will highlight the unique nature of WPFW 89.3 FM's programming, which is a mixture of progressive public affairs, as well as being one of the Washington Metropolitan area's last bastions of jazz and world music on the FM dial. In lieu of gift premiums as thank you gifts (the fulfillment of which have historically proven problematic for Station Management), this Drive will focus on a handful of logo items, as well as the Saturday (9pm - 1am), March 10th "La Fete de La WPFW". This a 35th Anniversary Benefit celebration at La Maison Française at the Embassy of France (4101 Reservoir Road, NW, Washington DC) will be the first of numerous celebrations throughout the City marking the Station's anniversary.
