Patented Technology Allows Stainless Steel And Carbon To Be Integrated Together
Online, June 7, 2011 (Newswire.com) - KVA Stainless (MS2 patented technology) is working with a company that has invented a new patented carbon technology. The two companies are developing new hybrid bicycle tubing that incorporates the carbon technology with MS2 to produce bike frames for road and mountain bikes. Because of the characteristics of the different materials, this multi-material tube structure has the potential to be 30% lighter than the original stainless steel tubing and have improved bending/torsion performance.
This multi-material tubing possess unique vibration damping qualities due to the dissimilar natural frequencies of the fiber based composites and stainless steel. This vibration damping effect gives improved "feel" to bicycle frames and components when compared to the vibrations generated by single material metal surfaces.
Having MS2 Stainless Steel and Carbon, combines the best attributes of advanced composites with those of stainless steel. We start with MS2 stainless steel tubing and then design and engineer a precise pattern to be laser machined to remove the optimal amount of material from the tube.
The resulting lightweight metal shell is then fused (using the company's patented Bi/Fusion Technology) with an advanced composite inner structure molded during a secondary process using elevated temperature and pressure.
Road bikes, mountain bikes and bmx bikes will be fabricated and with this new carbon/stainless steel technology and tested over the next couple of months in the laboratory and within real world environments.
