Palo Alto Family YMCA Reveals Details for This Year's Free Healthy Kids Day Saturday, March 27

Local YMCA To Host Families For A Day of Fun, Safe and Healthy Activities in Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, CA - March 17, 2010 - The Palo Alto Family YMCA announced today the details of YMCA Healthy Kids Day, taking place locally at the end of this month, Saturday, March 27 at Hoover Elementary in Palo Alto from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The free event for children and families is part of a nationwide effort to help lower the increase of childhood obesity, by raising the awareness level of families, and to help encourage parents to adopt a healthy lifestyle for their families.

"We want this free, local event to help teach children and their parents to embrace healthy habits that they will turn into a long-term lifestyle," said Daniel Koba, Youth/Teen Sports & Outreach Fitness Director of the Palo Alto Family YMCA. "By coming out to Healthy Kids Day and participating in a wide variety of fun and engaging activities, we hope to demonstrate to everyone how implementing fitness into their daily routine can be fun, painless, and free."

To help promote Healthy Kids Day, the Palo Alto Family YMCA will host a daylong schedule of activities that encourages healthy habits for children. YMCA Healthy Kids Day is supported by the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, American Public Health Association, American Cancer Society, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors.

Located at Hoover Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., kids and their families will be able to enjoy community vendor booths, family games, arts and crafts, field games, bounce houses, and an Easter egg hunt - along with a visit from the Easter Bunny! A food fundraiser for the Palo Alto Family YMCA Youth & Government Delegation will also be part of the event, offering healthy choices for families.
