Overcoming Stuttering, Shyness Featured on "The Creativity Salon"

Inspired by the film, "The King's Speech," host Neil Tepper addresses the debilitating conditions of speech disorders and shyness

The challenges of overcoming stuttering and shyness are the hot topics featured in the latest episode of "The Creativity Salon," a new television series hosted by creativity expert Neil Tepper on Hawaii's Olelo network. Titled "Finding Your Voice," the episode was inspired by the movie "The King's Speech," which was based on the true story of King George VI of England and how he overcame a severe stuttering disorder with the help of a speech therapist. It airs in Hawaii on Friday, June 17 at 8:00 p.m. HT and repeats on Tuesday, June 21 and Tuesday, June 28 at 12:30 p.m. on O'ahu, Channel 52. Viewers can also download or stream the episode at any time on OleloNet on Demand.

"Creativity Salon" guests for "Finding Your Voice" include Major Gary McCormick, who discusses overcoming his stuttering problem and how this resulted in a successful 23-year career with the U.S. Army. Host Neil Tepper also welcomes Dean Masai, who shares his story about having a debilitating case of shyness. Masai credits participation in Toastmasters with helping to control his condition. The panel discussion also features Yurika Matsumori-Kelly, who gives meaning and context to the discussion with her expertise as a speech language pathologist.

"In this episode of 'The Creativity Salon,' viewers will learn that even kings can have common disorders, so there is no shame to feel about their own," said host Neil Tepper. "In addition, they will learn that there are solutions for just about any problem or challenge they face in life. It's just a matter of acknowledging your problem and then stepping outside your comfort zone to apply the solution. It's what personal and professional growth is all about."

"Finding Your Voice" is a heartening, must-see show for anyone looking to find their voice to overcome challenges in their lives.
