Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego Raises Awareness for Ovarian Cancer With 4th Annual Teal Steps Walk

SAN DIEGO, September 12, 2019 (Newswire.com) - ​The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego, with In Motion Events, invites everyone to join the 4th Annual Teal Steps Walk to raise awareness for ovarian cancer and save women's lives. Enjoy the 1- or 2-mile walk/stroll along Coronado’s bayfront and view the stunning San Diego skyline on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (registration begins at 7 a.m.).

Fun for all ages and mobilities, participants in this family-friendly event can choose to walk or run the 1- or 2-mile route along Tidelands Park with some friends, a team, solo, or even with their furry friends.

The Teal Steps walk was created to raise much-needed funds to support the community outreach programs of the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego. These outreach programs are aimed at raising awareness of ovarian cancer, the most lethal gynecologic cancer. 

Currently, there is no screening test for the early detection of ovarian cancer, and the overall five-year survival rate is only 45%. However, when detected early, the survival rate is over 90%. Funds raised at this event will be used to support education and outreach to the general public, civic groups, organizations and medical health care providers throughout San Diego County.

Starting this year, the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego’s goal is to expand their educational efforts by providing financial support to the Gynecological-Oncology Fellowship Support Fund at the UCSD School of Medicine. These funds will be used to expand and enhance clinical, educational and research opportunities for the four physicians currently in the Fellowship Program.

All Walk attendees will receive a newly designed event T-shirt, cinch bag, and raffle ticket at check-in and are invited to stay for refreshments, participate in the raffle, and visit vendor booths after the walk.
