'Old Glory on Parade' at Julian's Annual 4th of July Parade

Julian, CA, June 27, 2017 (Newswire.com) - For more than twenty years, Julian residents, their friends and parade lovers from all over the world have lined up on the town’s main street to wave their flags, cheer the marching bands, salute the Marine Color Guard, and carry a giant American Flag down the thoroughfare. And this year's July 4th celebration promises to continue this grand tradition. 

This year Julian salutes July Fourth with the theme, “Old Glory on Parade.”  Julian honors the nation’s birthday with a salute to the men and women who made this country great, both domestically and militarily.

The parade will feature patriotic music and will include a number of marching bands, such as: The Emerald Society Bag Pipe Band, Euphoria Brass Band (a great Dixie Land sound), Gold Drum and Bugle Corps, and Mariachi Continental de San Diego. Other highlights of the celebration include:

• Pre-parade activities begin with a fly-over of 4 Stearman Biplanes used in WW2 to train pilots at 10 A.M.
• A shoot-out by the Doves and Desperados at Noon and a fly-over of one T-6 military training plane and one T-34 military training plane
• The National Anthem will be sung by the Julian Arts Chorale, signaling the beginning of the parade

Dignitaries in the Julian 4th of July Parade include: Grand Marshal, Roger Mudd a POW of the Vietnam War; County Supervisor, Diane Jacob; Julian’s Honorary Mayor, Joe Thompson; Merchant of the Year, Don Brown; Librarian, Coleen Baker; Veterans from the American Legion; Mr. and Mrs. Apple Days, Keith and Priscilla Webb; David Davis of KUSI and his wife; State Representative, Joel Anderson; and Miss Julian and her court. In addition, antique cars, vintage tractors, belly dancers, World War 2 Submariners, and several comedy entries will appear to complete a fun well-rounded hometown parade.

Other activities that can be experienced on the day of the parade are:

• The historic quilt show put on by the Julian Women’s Club as well as a raffle for a one-of-a-kind quilt designed by the queen of quilt making, Eleanor Burns.
• A deep pit barbecue and dance for $10.00 put on by the American Legion when the parade has ended
• Commemorative T-shirts will be available for sale at the Town Hall and in front of the old Bank.

The Julian 4th of July Parade is quite popular so it is suggested that you arrive early to catch the pre-parade activities starting at 10 a.m. In fact, some parade “goers” set out chairs the night before to secure their seating. Main Street closes to traffic at 9 a.m. Follow directions to the nearest parking lot. Public toilets are available at the bank parking lot and behind the town hall.
