Oh We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside

With schools set to break up for the holidays and Brits facing a cash-strapped summer, it's no wonder the staycation trend is going strong this year. Millions of us are choosing to take mini-breaks and daytrips in the UK so a new poll has revealed the top beaches in Britain to escape from it all.

Britain's beaches are still a firm favourite, with figures from Visit Britain showing that 1.3 billion domestic day trips were taken in England last year and numbers of trips to the seaside increased by 11% from the previous year.

A survey by pchprizes.co.uk, one of the UK's largest free prize draw websites, found that although nearly a third (29%) of us dream about jetting off to an exotic location if we came into a large sum of money, in reality, we're happy to go back to our childhood and enjoy a winning day trip to the golden sands of Bournemouth, Blackpool and Scarborough.

Favourite British Beaches

1. Bournemouth
2. Torquay
3. Blackpool
4. Brighton
5. Great Yarmouth
6. Newquay
7. Scarborough
8. Marloes Sands, Pembrokeshire
9. Holkham
10. Sinclair's Bay, Caithness

James Lowe, Prize Manager at pchprizes.co.uk, said: "With many of us forgoing the traditional two week holiday abroad due to the squeeze on disposable income, our survey found that in reality, we love nothing more than a trip to the seaside to eat fish and chips, build sandcastles and take a refreshing dip in the sea."

Pchprizes.co.uk has given away over £300,000 to over 100 winners since launching in the UK in September 2011. UK consumers can enter the free prize draws daily on www.pchprizes.co.uk, a website owned and operated by Genting Alderney Limited under license from Publishers Clearing House.
