Odawa Casino Resort, owned and operated by the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, recently presented a check in the amount of $500 to the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation. The funds will be distributed to the World War II Monument Fund.

The World War II Monument Fund is a temporary fund established in partnership with the Petoskey High School class of 1949 and the City of Petoskey. Petoskey's World War II Monument will be moved from its current location on W. Mitchell to a much more accessible location in Pennsylvania Park. The estimated cost of the project is $5000. This donation brings the Fund balance to $2,000. The goal is to complete the fundraising and make the move by later this summer.

Mr. Gordon Wiitanen, a World War II and Korean War veteran from Petoskey, presented this opportunity to Odawa Casino Resort for consideration.

"The Community Foundation is grateful for this generous donation from Odawa Casino Resort, and the efforts of Mr. Gordon Wiitanen to secure the donation," said David Jones, Community Foundation Executive Director. "The Community Foundation is honored to play a part in this important project and show support for the brave men and women from the community who served our country in World War II," added Jones.

Anyone interested in making a donation to the World War II Monument Fund should contact the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation at 231-348-5820.
