The New York City Garment District Alliance (GDA) is seeking artists to show their large, sculptural work in a public art installation in the heart of midtown Manhattan. Artists should submit qualifications, including examples of their recent work, along with a proposal of their project concept by Sept. 30, 2019. The final project budget may be up to $50,000 and will be installed in spring 2020.

Following a competitive preliminary proposal process comprised of visual arts professionals and community representatives, one or more artists may be invited to submit a full proposal. Artists selected in this phase of the process will present their background, qualifications, and examples of their artwork which will establish their ability to present and install works with the following qualities: artistic merit, site suitability, and durability.

GDA is partnering with Artrepreneur, an online platform that helps artists succeed, to solicit proposals. Last year, the two organizations partnered to produce Art Elevated, an aerial exhibition displaying the works of talented artists from around the world on banners throughout the Garment District. Ninety winners were selected by a jury following their first global art competition. More than 500 submissions were received from artists in over 20 different countries. Out of these 90, three were selected as the grand prize winners.
