Online, June 21, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Carl Eller, President and Founder of the Retired Players Association, hosted a press conference in Washington DC on June 20, 2011.
This was a very successful gathering of Hall of Famers and NFL retirees, representing five decades of NFL football. These men expressed their outrage at the current system and demanded that the NFL do the "fair and right thing" for the retired players. The conference further called attention to the compelling need for pensions and health care benefits for retired players. The retirees unanimously voiced their support for the Eller vs. NFL Class Action suit. Some of the players present were: HOFers Irv Cross, Lem Barney, Elvin Bethea, Paul Krause, Joe DeLamielleure, retirees Dave Pear, George Visger, and Conrad Dobler.
Eller says this conference provides a compelling message to the general public and the fans about the difficulties NFL retirees have in obtaining a fair and livable pensions and health care benefits. It also calls attention to the serious injuries these players live with from their football careers. Eller will be taking this powerful message from the Washington press conference directly to Roger Goodell and the NFL owners, who he will be meeting with on June 21, 2011 in Chicago. The Retired Players Association has demonstrated leadership and skill in uniting the various retiree groups and is the premier organization representing the retired players.
