MD Orthopaedics is an orthopedic device company dedicated to the design, manufacture, and distribution of superior products for the non-surgical, Ponseti Method of treating congenital clubfoot. Since its inception in 2004, MD Orthopaedics has been an industry leader and has helped over 232,000 children and their families to successfully and safely overcome clubfoot without surgery. With a staff of 28, the company produces over 20 products that are used in over 126 countries.

Clubfoot is one of the most common musculoskeletal birth defects, affecting over 100,000 newborns in the world each year. If left untreated, it leads to permanent disability and the inability to walk properly. Surgical treatment methods are not generally satisfactory as they can lead to arthritis and the need for more surgery in the future. The non-surgical Ponseti method is not only more effective…it is also far safer and much less costly.

"Not only do we offer the most advanced orthotics in the industry, we are also committed to providing both families and practitioners an unsurpassed customer service experience."

John Mitchell, Founder and President

Dr. Ignacio Ponseti (1914-2009), an orthopedist born in Spain, developed the non-surgical method of treating clubfoot after observing the poor outcomes of many people after surgery. The Ponseti Method involves serial weekly manipulation and casting of the clubfoot to help “train” the foot to be in the proper position. It became the treatment of choice and is now successfully used worldwide in approximately 95% of clubfoot cases.

After the serial casting is completed, special shoes (ankle foot orthotics, or AFOs) and braces are needed to maintain the new, corrected foot position. MD Orthopaedics designs and manufactures the most advanced orthotics in the industry.

According to Dr. Ponseti, “The shoes available [in the past] were very inadequate, and I was really very desperate to find a shoe that would fit the babies with comfort. I talked to John [Mitchell]. Of course he was acquainted with plastics and modern technologies that I had no idea of. He developed this excellent shoe for difficult feet that we call complex feet, and it has been a Godsend because it has solved the problem of after-treatment of the deformity.”

According to inventor John Mitchell, MD Orthopaedics’ founder and president, “Not only do we offer the most advanced orthotics in the industry, we are also committed to providing both families and practitioners an unsurpassed customer service experience.”

MD Orthopaedics works with doctors and parents to provide the best in products and customer service, assuring the best possible outcome after treatment of clubfoot with the Ponseti Method. Inquiries are welcomed from physicians and parents alike.
