Town Hopper Tours is making it faster and cheaper for New Yorkers thinking of buying a home in New Jersey to pinpoint their ideal neighborhood. Until recently, Manhattanites, Brooklynites and others had to rent a car and arm themselves with research before heading to scout properties in the Garden State – a process that could cost up to $820 per weekend when tallying up car rental, insurance, gas, tolls, and time. Now Town Hopper Tours plans to remedy that with a 3-hour tour that costs $149 per person and visits five towns in Essex county that are within a 1-hour train commute from Manhattan. The inaugural tour on September 17th will visit Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Maplewood, Montclair, and South Orange.

“Our goal is to make a prospective home buyer’s due diligence faster and cheaper than if they were to rent a car and do it themselves,” said Maria Hassler, who co-founded Town Hopper Tours with her husband, Jay. The couple – an author and a classical musician – are not realtors and do not profit from any home sale.

Our goal is to make a prospective home buyer's due diligence faster and cheaper than if they were to rent a car and do it themselves.

Maria Hassler, Co-Founder

“We’ve been looking to buy our own home, so we have a firm grasp on the home seeker perspective. We also know quite well the anxiety involved in buying a home and wanting to make a smart investment,” explained Jay Hassler. “There’s absolutely no pressure with us. Our only agenda is to help our guests clarify their own agendas so that they can go to their real estate agent more focused – hopefully narrowing their search to one town, even one street, as opposed to a whole county.”

The guided luxury mini-bus tour will run 3-hours and show guests where the schools are (and discuss school ratings), point out train stops, touch on parking permit wait lists, places of worship, parks, fitness centers, and review taxes by town, among other things. Guests will also get to see what $250K, $500K and $750K affords in each town by driving past homes that sold at these price points within the past month or two.

All guests receive a binder fully-loaded with research and 6-month VIP Access to the Town Hopper Tours website with linked content to school reports, tax cheat sheets, gym reviews, and more.

The first tour takes place on Saturday, September 17th and departs near Newark Penn Station in a luxury mini bus. Guests should arrive at 9:30 am. The tour will return at 12:45 pm and is for adults only. Tickets cost $149 per person. Space is limited and reservations must be made online at: https://townhoppertours-essexcountyexpress.eventbrite.com. Additional tours will follow.
