New Jersey Tourism Industry Association Grateful as Governor Funds Tourism Recovery

The NJTIA, representing every facet of the multibillion-dollar tourism and hospitality industry, applauds the bipartisan effort to keep New Jersey competitive as travel industry rebounds

The New Jersey Tourism Industry Association (NJTIA) recognizes the challenging times ahead for tourism due to the uncertainty the pandemic has brought to the travel industry. That reason marks the significance of Governor Phil Murphy signing A5689/S3830 allocating $25 Million from the Federal American Rescue Plan funds to assist the Department of State, Division of Travel and Tourism as well as the appropriation to support regional Destination Marketing Organization efforts with the promotion of one of the Garden State's most impactful economic drivers.

Joseph Simonetta, NJTIA Executive Director, stated, "It is with much appreciation to Governor Murphy, the State Senate and Assembly for overwhelmingly supporting the industry, and sincere thanks to the prime sponsors of each bill; Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald and Senator James Beach." NJTIA has been working with members, legislators and the Governor's office to identify solutions since the start of the pandemic and has found success that benefits every corner of the state. At their December 2021 Conference, Tourism Economics reported that no industry in the state has been hit as hard. "The value of supporting an industry representing seven percent or one out of fourteen NJ jobs, has been made a priority with the passing of this bill," added Simonetta.

NJTIA was established in 1984, comprising of associations, businesses, industries, resorts, attractions, destination marketing organizations, transportation companies, cultural arts and historic organizations and advocates public policies that encourage the growth and development of New Jersey's travel and tourism industry. Motivated by the commitment to tourism's capacity to foster economic development, generate revenues and create jobs, NJTIA is the leading voice for promoting the knowledge and understanding that travel and tourism is essential to the economy, the image and the quality of life of New Jersey, and has recently partnered with The Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality and Tourism (LIGHT) at the Stockton University School of Business to offer a new online certificate program designed for employees looking to advance in the industry.
