New Homercares App Facilitates Communication Between Patients, Their Families and Providers
ATLANTA, April 28, 2020 (Newswire.com) - The health care system is anything but simple. Yet, when it comes to understanding the full spectrum of patient care management and communication, it would be hard to argue that any group knows the ins and outs better than nurses. Now, a team of RNs has joined forces to create an app to streamline the patient experience, called Homercares.
“Nurses are on the front lines of patient care and all that entails: from direct patient care to family communications to completion of required forms to ensuring follow-up care, and on and on,” said Darlene Green, co-founder, Companion Kare Consultants. “My colleagues and I see firsthand the challenges of coordinating all of those parts and pieces. We wanted to make the exchange of information between patients, their families and various providers easy and efficient.”
Though the app was in the works before COVID-19 became a pandemic, the timing of its introduction seems to be ideal. Among its many features, Homercares offers a means for families to monitor a loved one’s care and progress from a distance if they are admitted to or discharged from a hospital or facility. It likewise provides for telehealth appointments and consults in lieu of office visits. But that is not all that the app is able to do.
Homercares is a powerful cloud-based tool available via any device or PC that stresses privacy and security. It can be used to upload documents from patient to provider or provider to patient; facilitate transfer of records between caregivers; schedule appointments; log health care symptoms and vital signs; and through external access, provide a link to patient portals. Email comes standard to enable easy patient-to-family or patient-to-provider communications.
The app also includes a blog on trending health care topics and practical tips and advice from health care professionals. In development is a YouTube channel where providers can post instructional videos for self-care.
The app launched this week and a 14-day trial is available to the first 100 users so they can explore its functions and decide if it is the right tool for them. After that, subscriptions are available on a monthly or annual basis.
