Nazzaro's Partners with Georgia Olive Farms

Nazzaro's has partnered with Georgia Olive Farms Olive Oil. Not only will they use the product in the Authentic Italian cuisine, but will offer it at a discount to any wishing to purchase it at their Restaurant on St. Simons Island.

Extra virgin olive oil is a primary component of Italian cuisine. It is one of the most essential and versatile ingredients in the world of cooking, regarded as the "Healthy Oil" to cook with and delicious on its own.


Ninety-nine percent of the olive oil consumed in the United States is imported, and most of the remaining 1 percent is from West Coast producers. But a small cadre of Georgia farmers wants to change our growing dependence on foreign olive oil. Jason Shaw, a South Georgia farmer, insurance executive and freshman legislator, and his partners in Georgia Olive Farms are spearheading the effort to make artisan olive oil Georgia's newest cash crop.

This past September, he harvested the first crop of olives from trees planted on 16 acres in 2009. Although a full harvest is not expected for two more years, the early harvest of about 4 tons produced 100 gallons of the liquid gold, bottled under the label of Georgia Olive Farms.

"Our regulars love it, and we are so proud to support a local product" says Co--Owner and Sommelier Rich Nazzaro. Nazzaro's recently began using the product in all of their savory recipes; they have also made it available to their patrons to purchase in the restaurant.
