MVI Systems Powers Multimedia Solution On IPads For Melbourne School

iPad video streaming solution facilitates self directed learning and complements face-to-face teaching

An innovative IPTV and Second Screen Video-On-Demand solution for iPads by Hong Kong video technology provider MVI Systems Ltd has been chosen by Australian systems integrator Oceanic Broadband Pty Ltd to provide Melbourne's Brighton Grammar School with a comprehensive multimedia solution focused on trialing video based materials for students with additional learning needs.

Using a secure wireless network for delivery, the trial was powered by MVI's telco-grade VIP video technology platform which is currently the only one in the market supporting live content streaming on iPads using an IPTV walled garden network.

MVI's video headend installed by Oceanic comprised the VIP-DV Gateway for native quality video ingestion, VIP-OD server software for seamless trick play and scalable streaming, as well as the VIP-ER transcoder to configure the content for viewing on students' iPads.

For the trial, a library of 180 Back2BasicsTM video tutorials of 3-8 minutes length where made available, which contained English and Maths subjects to Year 6 and 12 respectively. Additional material available on the platform included documentaries, news, movies and live satellite TV programs.

"The purpose of this brief trial was to explore the use of video-based instruction with iPads, and to obtain student feedback on the motivational aspects of using such videos as supportive tools in the remedial setting," said Claire Evans, Learning Support Coordinator at Brighton Grammar Junior School.

The trial prove to be very popular with the students due to the fun and easy learning environment it provides. The self directed learning environment the solution enables also offers additional motivation as students are able to control the device and thus the learning pace themselves.

As this learning facility is delivered wirelessly and provides the ability to monitor viewing remotely, this type of learning facility is an ideal way to provide rural and remote students with educational materials in a timely manner.
