Multilingual Poetry by Meena

Brampton Library Opens South Asian Heritage Month with Readings from Meena Chopra's Multilingual Poetry Books. Educator , poet and artist Meena Chopra who writes both in Hindi and English recently published her Hindi poetry book "SUBAH KA SURAJ

Mayor of Brampton Ms Susan Fennell was the Chief Guest at the occasion at South Fletcher's Library in Brampton, Canada on the 2nd of May, 2010. The event was attended by many litterateurs of Hindi, English and Urdu communities. Executive Director Brampton Arts Council and Executive Director of Brampton Library were also present. Chair Brampton Library Janice Awde welcomed all and Meena's readings in enhancing the multi-cultural fabric of Canada. The event was coordinated and initiated by the multicultural in charge Sarala Uttangi who was the MC on the occasion. Ms Melissa Bhagat, consultant to the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturism, Mr Jason Kenney, read his special message to Meena for her contribution to the cultural fabric of Canada. The future Conservative candidate Mr Kyle was also present on the occasion.
Writer Suman Ghai who is also co-founder of Hindi Writer's Guild, and has done transliteration of this book in Roman, reviewed the book and said "Meena does not recognize any boundaries, her experiences are universal. Her poems deal with the nature within and without." Poetess and writer Nasim Syed who has written the book in Urdu Script, said "Meena has her own style and symbols which are different from other writers. Her poetry is imbued with powerful imagery. English language poetess "Saskia Maddock spoke on poems from Ignited Lines, where she found her intense connectivity with Meena's poetry. Meena read her poems both in Hindi and English. She explained that her art is a process of learning of bringing the two worlds together with in. in her words "The glimpses of the setting sun from my childhood nostalgically dissolve in the abundantly spread hues of the setting sun on the skyline of this beautiful country, Canada, to which I now belong and this creates a new sunshine within. This sunshine melts in me and flows out in the form of verses. Distances fade; my past becomes one with my present. The rising sun of the East starts blending into the setting sun of the West. The directions merge into each other fading into the moments beyond." During the question answer session, there were sharp questions from the audience and equally sharp were the answers from Meena. The event was concluded by vote of thanks from Tia Virdi, Meena's daughter and then by Branch manager Lisa Lipson.
