Online, January 24, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Fliers on the Mumbai-Delhi route who were affected by ongoing runway repairs at Mumbai airport which led to limited flights, can take heart. Most airlines are planning to increase capacity to meet the increase in demand.
When the winter schedule kicked off in October last year, airlines were forced to reduce flights on the Mumbai-Delhi-Mumbai route.
This was because only one of the two runways was available in Mumbai as the main runway, is undergoing major repairs. "But looking at the huge demand on this route, we are going to start two extra flights soon," said an official from Kingfisher Airlines.
More than sixty flights operate on the Mumbai-Delhi-Mumbai route on a daily basis. "Though the airlines cut down flights on this route, the passenger demand did not decrease," said a source.
The spokesperson for the national carrier Air India also said that they are thinking of adding capacity on this route. "Talks are on to start flights on this route. But no decision has been taken yet," he said.
