Michelle Letourneau-McAvoy Announces Campaign for Wayne County Circuit Court Judge
Plymouth Twp, MI, April 11, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Wayne County Circuit Court Friend of the Court Referee Michelle Letourneau – McAvoy announced her candidacy for Wayne County Circuit Court Judge. Due to retirements, there are four non-incumbent positions open.
Michelle Letourneau-McAvoy has seventeen years of attorney experience having been licensed to practice law in 1999. For the past five years, she has been a Wayne County Friend of the Court Referee presiding over thousands of cases regarding child custody, support and parenting time.
There are other candidates running for Judge but there aren’t currently any that actually preside over Wayne County Circuit issues as she does. Michelle Letourneau-McAvoy already has the judicial temperament and respect of attorneys and litigants that will allow her to transition to judge smoothly.
“When you’re sitting ... as a referee or a judge, you’re impartial, you’re taking both sides in, you’re evaluating the whole case — truly in the bests interests of the children,” said Michelle Letourneau-McAvoy.
Prior to her work as a Referee, Ms. Letourneau-McAvoy was a very active practicing attorney while running her law office which employed three lawyers and three support staff. She practiced mostly in domestic relations but also has experience in statewide civil, criminal and probate litigation.
Ms. Letourneau-McAvoy was raised in Livonia and is married to Christopher McAvoy with two school age children. Christopher McAvoy is a practicing lawyer with an office in Taylor, MI.
While active in in the Plymouth – Canton school district, having been part of the Student Transition Advisory Committee in connection with school closures and consolidations, she also has volunteered for First Step, a domestic violence resource agency, and Gleaners Community Food Bank.
Ms. Letourneau-McAvoy, whose campaign kickoff is at Nemo’s in Detroit from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on April 13, 2016, looks forward to taking her experience as a Referee to help serve the good people of Wayne County as judge.
