Michael Gabelli Donates to The Jackie Robinson Foundation

Gift Supports The Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) Scholarship Program

The Jackie Robinson Foundation (“JRF”) has received a $10,000 donation from Michael Gabelli to support its celebrated JRF Scholarship Program. Founded in 1973 by Rachel Robinson, Jackie Robinson’s widow, the JRF Mentoring and Leadership Development Program addresses the financial need of outstanding college students while providing extensive, hands-on mentoring and a host of support services.

High school graduates who plan to earn a baccalaureate degree from an accredited, four-year college or university are eligible to apply for the JRF Scholarship. Once chosen through a national, selective process, JRF Scholars receive a four-year grant to attend the undergraduate school of their choice and become participants in a four-year, comprehensive program that guides students to effectively navigate their college environments, explore career options, develop leadership skills, and embrace a commitment to service. The program also promotes the values embodied in the heroic life of the Foundation’s namesake, encouraging Scholars to positively impact the lives of others.

Michael Gabelli commented, “As a trailblazer for equality through true leadership, skill and courage, Jackie Robinson broke barriers in sports, media and business, impacting our entire society. I am so pleased to help honor his legacy through this donation to The Jackie Robinson Foundation, enabling highly motivated students to fulfill their potential and pursue their college dreams.”

“We are tremendously grateful to Michael Gabelli for his generous donation to JRF. He joins the more than 400 corporations, foundations, institutions and individuals that have supported the work, mission and Scholars of The Jackie Robinson Foundation over the last 46 years,” said Stephen Lynch, JRF’s Vice President, Sponsor Relations.
