Mediware Launches "IRF-PAI Readiness Program" to Help Inpatient Rehab Facilities Cope With CMS Changes

Mediware Information Systems Inc. has prepared a series of events, resources and product updates to help inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs) address CMS changes to the IRF Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI). The IRF-PAI determines how a facility is paid for inpatient rehab services.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced sweeping changes to the IRF-PAI that include new types of measures that can more than double the length of each assessment. These changes will not only affect how patients are scored and hospitals are paid but will radically impact the workflow and productivity of therapists providing patient care.

Mediware is taking steps to help both its clients and non-clients deal with the changes:

  • Mediware customers will receive updates to their MediLinks software that will collect the new IRF-PAI data elements in a streamlined fashion. These enhancements will be presented to clients in April 2016 and implemented well ahead of the October 2016 phase-in of the new IRFPAI.
  • The IRPPPS Module from Mediware is an ideal solution for non-client IRFs that rely on the limited capabilities of their electronic health records (EHR) systems to adapt to the changes. The module incorporates updates for the new IRF-PAI and can integrate with any EHR.
  • Mediware will provide a continuing series of white papers, updates and presentations designed to help IRFs cope with the looming changes. The documents can be found at Mediware.com/rehabilitation.

You can learn more about changes to the IRF-PAI and how Mediware can help you address the challenge by calling 888-MEDIWARE or visiting Mediware.com/rehabilitation.
