Mr. Crais co-founded and served as founding president of Physicians Proviso Inc, a network of primary care practice physicians in partnership with Pamlab Inc founder Sam Camp. Nestle Medical Sciences Corp recently acquired Pamlab. In his capacity with Physicians Proviso, Crais worked with the Office of National Coordinator, FDA, HHS, CMS, and Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative as the ACA (PPACA) regulatory and rulemaking process was culminating which included rules for electronic medical record implementation, and accountable care organization (ACO) formulation.
He was a founder of Diabetes Assessment and Management Centers of America Inc. (formerly The Sheehan Clinic) with the renowned diabetes and wound care expert Dr. Peter Sheehan of New York City. Dr. Sheehan came to Mr. Crais in 2010 for his assistance in developing a business model to diagnose the eye, heart, kidney, and foot-related complications of Type 2 Diabetes in one patient visit. Crais created the model later acquired by physician partners to meet this goal and do it profitably under both fee-for-service payment models and also accountable care systems with bundled payments and/or global budgets. A deep understanding of the scope of ACO practices, regulations, economics was necessary in developing these systems.
As such, David Crais brings industry leading knowledge and experience to the task of ACO management. At the Opal Events National ACO Summit, he moderated a panel discussion with representatives from Cognizant Consulting, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, and the National Association of ACO’s (NAACO) on healthcare informatics and analytics use in quality metric scoring for healthcare providers.
