Online, June 16, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Marjorie Broughton, President of Rock Solid Construction Group, Inc., is the winner of The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce's 2011 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Rock Solid is a Sarasota-based construction firm offering new construction, renovation and build-out services for residential and commercial clients, and general construction services to public and private sector markets in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Lee, Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, DeSoto and Highland counties.
In a video presented at the chamber's annual Frank G. Berlin, Sr. Small Business Awards luncheon, Broughton commented that she attributed much of the success of her company to the relationships she has built since its formation, stating, "As a small company you are sometimes limited as to how much time and resources you have available to develop new business, so effective use of personal contacts and building strong networking skills is essential. Once you've made the connection, been awarded the project, and exceeded the expectations of your client, they will be your best promoters and will refer you to others. It's important to constantly build on all your relationships and to support your community as you grow a business."
Broughton, Rock Solid's majority shareholder, started the company in 2005 and received Florida State Certification as a Minority Business Enterprise in 2007. By combining her previous marketing experience with her family's passion for home renovations, she has turned Rock Solid into a thriving business that has been selected for various city and county projects, several Sarasota YMCA new construction and renovation projects, new residential construction, residential remodeling, and commercial build-outs.
Current projects include working as the minority construction partner for the Siemens Environmental Corp./City of Sarasota Comprehensive Environmental Analysis and Construction Renovation program; with Hillsborough County/HUD Rehabilitation/New Construction Affordable Housing Services for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, and with Manhattan-Kraft Construction Company on the construction of the City of Sarasota's new community center at Robert Taylor Park and Manhattan-Kraft's construction of the new ambulatory surgery/outpatient diagnostic support center at the VA hospital in Cape Coral, Florida.
Rock Solid focuses on working with architects to build homes that are both environmentally sustainable and universal in design. The firm is currently building a custom home on Floyd Street west of the Trail in Sarasota designed by CMSA Architecture that will feature a high tech, energy efficient inversion HVAC system, cistern collection and water purification system, and solar heating, as well as being designed to meet the future needs of the owners as they age in place.
As a strong supporter of numerous area charitable organizations, Rock Solid has contributed over $100,000 in funds raised, donations, and services provided to such organizations as United Way of Sarasota, G.Wiz Science Museum, Girls Inc. of Sarasota County, Pines of Sarasota, Sarasota YMCA, and Sarasota Cultural Council.
