Make-A-Wish Partners with New South Construction to Grant Wish

Powder Springs family to see final product this week

On Thursday, April 23, 2015, a 13-year-old girl, Kayla from Powder Springs, suffering from a brain tumor will be gifted a barn-themed tree house from Make-A-Wish Georgia. In partnership with New South Construction Company, Make-A-Wish constructed a tree house that is 192 square feet and took in excess of 1,000 man-hours to build. It has a front porch, landscaping and an escape slide.

When she was approached by Make-A-Wish, Kayla’s one wish was to have a barn-themed tree house to incorporate her love of owls and horses. She also insisted on a ‘fairy garden’ so her 8-year-old sister could have a place to play. Kayla’s friends and family have worked closely with Make-A-Wish Georgia and New South Construction to surprise Kayla with her dream tree house.

“Our team has thoroughly enjoyed constructing this tree house for Kayla and her family, and we cannot wait to see her reaction at the reveal,” said Dan Smith, CFO of New South Construction. “Make-A-Wish has granted so many amazing wishes over the years, and we’re honored to partner with them to grant Kayla’s wish.”

Make-A-Wish’s main goal is to grant the heartfelt desires of children between the ages of two and a half and 18 suffering from life-threatening medical conditions. The foundation aims to grant any wish the child has, whether they wish to be (e.g., a firefighter), to have (e.g., a tree house), to meet (e.g., a celebrity), or to go (e.g., to Disney World).

Since 1995, the Georgia chapter has granted nearly 7,000 local wishes. Currently, there are 626 eligible children with wishes in the state of Georgia, including 334 in Metro Atlanta. The goal for this fiscal year is to grant 368 wishes. The average cost of a wish is $9,000. Make-A-Wish Georgia does not receive government funding, but rather, relies on the generous support of individuals, local foundations and corporations.
