MAFIA Jewellery Brand Walks Runway in Support of Miss Universe Canada and SOS Children's Village Charity
Online, June 14, 2011 (Newswire.com) - It takes a village to raise a child, and it takes a runway to help the efforts of Betsy Leimbigler, Miss Universe Canada hopeful, in raising awareness of the SOS Children's Village Charity. MAFIA Jewellery and other local designers have teamed up for a night of fashion and fundraising to support Miss Betsy Leimbigler and raise awareness of the SOS Children's Village Charity. The event will take place on June 15, 2011 from 6:30pm-9:30pm at AMH Style (1440 Wellington Street, Ottawa). A suggested donation of $10 is welcome at the door.
The MAFIA brand encompasses unique, handmade, high fashion pieces in a variety of styles. MAFIA Jewellery began in 2007, when two Ottawa-based sisters discovered the unique brand and partnered with the designer to launch MAFIA on the international fashion stage.
MAFIA was featured at 2011 Ottawa Fashion week, including runway placements alongside Montreal Designer, Nu.I Fashion, and Ottawa-based designer, Khala Morgan. Additionally, the company was recently featured in the 2011 EMI Canada Juno Awards Artist Nominee Gift Bags and was showcased at MTV Canada's Deane Cameron Tribute party, introducing the brand to celebrities such as Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Drake, Taylor Swift, and an impressive list of other global celebrities.
Building on recent successes, MAFIA has been approached with opportunities for product placements on The Bachelor Pad, as well as additional gift bag placements for the 2011 Billboard Awards in Las Vegas, the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards, Eva Longoria's Rally for the Kids fundraiser in Miami, and Toronto's own ReelWorld Film Festival. Moving forward, the company has recently partnered with MTV Canada for a publicity campaign, and is being featured in the lookbook for HollywoodEra, a brand launching in WalMart Canada nationwide this summer.
While MAFIA is experiencing international success, Ottawa locals and co-owners of MAFIA
Jewellery, Victoria and Olivia van Eyk, are passionate about building the fashion community in
Ottawa: "There is such a wealth of talent in Ottawa, and events like Ottawa Fashion Week and the
runway at AMH Style are really showcasing the strong fashion and design community here. It's so
exciting to be a part of this network and to put the spotlight on Ottawa as a growing hub for Canadian
fashion," Olivia says.
