“I think one of the most important things you can do as a leader is show the way through your actions,” the Director noted. “That’s why I encourage any manager to display passion and take risks on a regular basis. Natalie also believes in setting clear expectations for performance and communicating them well. “Your people can’t thrive if they don’t know what is expected of them,” she said. “If there is uncertainty about who is responsible for what, things get pushed aside or ignored. I think you can keep talented people engaged and interested by laying out clear duties and encouraging them to exceed specific benchmarks. When motivated people have obvious targets to reach, they tend to hit them and keep on going.”
