LPU organized International Go-Kart Championship-2015

•More than 60 teams had registered to compete in students initiated automotive event

Motivating students to convert their creative theoretical knowledge into dynamic automotive forms, Lovely Professional University organized International Go-Kart Championship (IGC)-2015. This four-month mega event witnessed engineering students speeding up self-designed go-karts on the LPU track for 20,000+ spectators. The IGC competition was a four day event which saw 60 teams from different colleges from various parts of the country. The Championship was to design and fabricate ‘Go-Karts’ in extremely low budget and to be further able to be fit for several tests and tasks. The collaborating partner of the championship was Republic Motors which also held workshop for students’ encouragement and skills development.

Over 1000 students and faculty members had come with their automobile karts to become the best engineering team. Showcasing excellent design, sturdy construction and efficient kart, the team ‘Stallions’ of Nirma University, Gujarat, won the overall trophy along with first prize of Rs one lakh. Team ‘Inferno’ of Delhi Technological University has been declared Design winner; whereas, two teams of LPU ‘Challengers’ and  ‘Silenzers’ bagged became Innovation Winner  and JURY Award Logo Winner respectively. First runner up team got cash prize of Rs 60,000; similarly, 2nd runner up got Rs 30,000.

After pre-final rounds based on technical, endurance and dynamic tests, LPU Society of Automotive Engineers and Collegiate Club had destined the race of 24 laps (near 50 Kms) to be covered in an hour.  The final teams used engines of 100 to 125cc in their vehicles for top speed of 80 kms and an average speed of 40-50 kms per hour. During last four days of the championship, many static competitions included excellent drivers’ skill of steering their respective vehicle on a challenging race track of tight and twisting turns.

Congratulating winners and all other participants, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal shared: “India is a great hub of auto industry and I am happy to see great number of students coming out with their own auto designs.”  Mr Mittal further said: “In fact, organization of such events is for research oriented practical and innovative activities for students so that they come up with creativity for the benefit of all. I feel that this event will not only provide broad competitive canvas to the students, but also enhance mechanical engineering approach and practice among students of all allied engineering branches.
