Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound is on the increase in Manchester & Leeds due to longer NHS waiting lists and increased awareness that ultrasound technology has significantly improved over the last decade.

Recent developments in ultrasound scanning, high-frequency and high-resolution imaging means that superior quality images of superficial tissue is now possible and readily available. Ultrasound is an excellent diagnostic tool for MSK disorders as it allows for direct visualisation of an area getting to the root of the problem easily, quickly and at an affordable price.
As people are also living longer, they're also remaining more active for longer. "We're seeing a lot of people who seem to be more active than our parents were, so consequently, we are seeing a lot more people with aches, pains and injuries," says Judith Pilling, Managing Director and clinical specialist at this is my: health screening and ultrasound centre. People seeking an ultrasound scan would have an initial examination and ultrasound scan of the affected area. Reasons for imaging vary from a simple pain or ache, rehabilitation from an accident / illness or for the sports enthusiast a recent or on-going sports injury. The most common ailments diagnosed are:

"When a client has undergone an ultrasound scan, with one of our specialists in MSK related disorders, it allows me to focus on the actual area causing the discomfort or pain, with clarity and certainty of knowing what the problem is. The area can be then effectively manipulated to alleviate the pain in the problem area. We can then work on a treatment and rehabilitation programme and with a continued and comprehensive at home exercises regime the client will hopefully recovery movement in a shorter period of time.
