Leadership for Youth Summit: Leaders Today Influencing Leaders of Tomorrow
Online, April 12, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Leaders of Today Influencing the Leaders of Tomorrow
Schools, organizations, and churches all need adults to step in and be leaders for our youth. Young adults and teenagers are searching for mentors who can take them into tomorrow with confidence. There are mixed messages coming from so many different directions: peers, friends, and parents to name a few. This is the reason that leadership for youth must include youth leadership activities.
Leaders of today are influencing the leaders of tomorrow.
It's not about entertaining the next generation; it is about leadership development in our youth.
Stepping into the position of leadership for youth takes confidence, skill, and determination. Many of today's youth have been under the influence of a questionable society or pressure from friends. Many leaders need to immerse themselves in youth leadership training. Youth are not looking for another friend; they are looking for tough love. A leader who will love unconditionally, and also a leader who will guide them in the right direction. There is no line between friend and mentor.
While engaging in youth leadership activities the leader must be focuses on awareness. He or she must be able to engage the youth without looking like he or she is trying to fit in. You must incorporate your own youth leadership styles whether you are a teacher, a youth minister, coach, or even a parent. Youth need empowerment AND they need to have fun. They CAN have both! There are benefits to mentoring youth that you can see immediately and as the kids grow and become successful.
Leadership for youth encompasses many things. You lead the youth extracting leadership qualities from them. You lead by example. You influence. You become who they want to be like when they grow up. A very wise man once said, "Be, don't preach." While they look to you, the see an experience first hand what it means to be a leader.
This is the ultimate goal.
There is nothing more fulfilling than knowing you have poured part of yourself onto kids who then grow to pour out on others who need the same. This is the pay it forward technique.
A good leader begets good leaders.
