Keystone Law Group: Temporary Conservatorships for Those at Risk During COVID-19

LOS ANGELES, April 30, 2020 (Newswire.com) - Keystone Law Group, P.C. recently accepted a case involving a client's elderly mother, who was living in a home where she risked exposure to COVID-19. Attorneys were able to secure a temporary conservatorship for the client, allowing the mother, who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease, to be removed and placed in a safe and healthy environment.
As COVID-19 continues to sweep across the nation, senior citizens are at the highest risk of succumbing to the deadly illness. Everyday errands, such as grocery shopping and visiting the bank, are now dangerous, even for healthy people. Older adults must be even more cautious, and their living spaces need to be as safe as possible, especially if they have physical or cognitive limitations.
In the case Keystone took on, the client's mother was living with Alzheimer's disease in a home where several people were showing signs of infection. Additionally, the mother's caretaker was not taking the proper precautions, such as wearing a mask and following social distancing guidelines. By arguing that the mother was incapable of making her own personal decisions and that her living situation posed a severe risk to hear health and safety, Keystone was able to get the client an emergency conservatorship, which meant she could immediately move her mother into her own home, a place where she is now thriving.
"It's a 180-degree change," the client says. "She is engaged all day, so she sleeps through the night. She is smiling, walking, singing, eating and so on. Her caretaker is incredible, and my mother loves her."
Had the client not acted quickly to reach out to Keystone for help removing her mother from the hazardous environment in which she was residing, the outcome may not have been so positive.
Keystone's managing partner, Shawn Kerendian, states, "Thanks to the urgency and efficiency with which our attorneys handled this case, the client, as temporary conservator, can feel at ease that her mother is safely sheltered according to public health guidelines and adequately cared for by healthy caregivers with the proper accreditations and protective equipment."
