K7 Customers Protected from Major Cyber Crime; Govt Health Insurance Company's Website Under Malicious Attack

Online, September 28, 2013 (Newswire.com) - K7 Computing Pvt Ltd prevented a virtual disaster for its customers by preventing a potentially major cyber crime. K7 detected a malicious virus found on an official webpage of a renowned Government-based Health Insurance company - the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHISTN)
Access to the webpage was immediately blocked only for K7 customers as the rest of the website's users - secured by other online security products - were left vulnerable to the malicious virus that gave cyber criminals access to the infected systems.
Once K7 Labs had detected the virus, both the customers and the health insurance company were immediately cautioned about the infection.
Many of K7's customers and its dealers called in and pointed out that no other online security product in the market had detected the mentioned webpage as being malicious.
The functionality of the virus is under investigation. Currently, its status remains as a possible common backdoor Trojan variant of the infamous Zeus botnet which gives the remote cyber criminal access over the infected computer.
"The virus contains a malicious payload that could create and execute a malicious file with filename 'svchost.exe' that pretends to come from a major online security solutions provider," said K7 Labs.
CMCHISTN's website is not only visited daily by a multitude of users but also frequented by all hospitals under the Tamil Nadu Government Health Insurance scheme.
