Online, January 4, 2013 (Newswire.com) - In 2012, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) started process which will result in introduction of more than thousand of new gTLDs (generic top-level domains). Top-Level domain is the last part of the domain name (e.g. .com, .org, .net, etc...).
This means that users will not only be able to register domain like example.com, example.org, example.biz (and couple of others), they will be able to choose from more than thousand of gTLDs, so their website adress may utilize domains like example.sport, example.fashion, example.blog, example.guide or even example.lol.
The new gTLDs aren't available yet; they will be available in end of 2013 / start 2014. So why to bother with them now? The answer is: Who comes first, catches the best domain name(s) (under the new gTLDs). Companies are starting to introduce pre-registrations, auctions, or trademark claims. So who watches the new gTLD rush, will be able to catch the domain name(s) of their interest before someone else does.
