Jimmy's Gone Green and Wants to Encourage Young School Children to Help Him Spread the Word
Los Angeles, California , December 15, 2015 (Newswire.com) - The Jimmy’s Gone Green Foundation, a nonprofit organization that promotes environmental awareness and conservation, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. This campaign has a funding goal of $3000, which needs to be raised in order to bring the foundation’s “Jimmy’s Gone Green” education program to Elementary schools. The program will focus on children ages 4 - 8, in the hopes of having an overflow effect on the community. The team states, “Jimmy inspires families to conserve energy and water, vital resources that our generation and generations before ours took for granted. The goal of the program is to empower children and their families to take simple, measurable actions to help protect the environment.” This program basically uses the powerful tool of “peer influence” in a positive manner. Jimmy is a kid himself, so the kids will relate to him. They will then take what they learn home to their families.
The teaching material includes an age-level book filled with fun rhymes and colorful illustrations where Jimmy teaches kids what it means to “be green”, along with a classroom guide for teachers. The book will include ten simple steps the children can take to help protect the environment, from turning off the water when they brush their teeth to recycling. The idea was inspired by California’s drought problem, which is so severe that the governor declared it a state of emergency. With a solid focus in mind, the team set out to establish an inspiring program that focused on the water shortage as well as other environmental issues, and “is designed to help children and their families adopt habits that have a positive impact on the environment.”
"The goal of the program is to empower children and their families to take simple, measurable actions to help protect the environment. [We hope] to get the program into at least 20 K-3 classrooms this April at little or no cost to teachers and schools."
