Announcing a huge Indian participation in the much awaited ArabPlast 2011 to be held in Dubai, Mr. Rajan Kalyanpur ED, The plastics Export Promotion Council said that raffia, a new plastic that lends itself to processes like textiles is the new blue-chip product for plastics. Japan is the second largest importer of plastic raffia in the world and at present does not import from India. This is a huge opportunity area.

ArabPlast 2011, which will see participation from blue chips such as L&T, Kabra Extrusion, Nilkamal Ltd and Rajoo Engineers among 70 others are key to tapping new markets in plastic. UAE and the European Union also import raffia.

Added Satish Khanna, the organizer of Arabplast 2011, " arabplast 2009 saw Indian companies occupying space of 500 sq metres. This year, they will occupy 1400 sq metre space and transact business of very 125 million US dollars."

Mr. Rajan Kalyanpur added that the plastic Industry in India is suffering from huge power costs and they were lobbying for a technology upgrade fund from the government of India.

Also present at the event were representatives from All India Plastic Manufacturers association and EEPC.
