Stan Stahl Ph.D, president of the Los Angeles chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA-LA) will be a featured speaker at the California Association of County Treasurers and Tax Collectors (CACTTC) on Wednesday, June 13 , 2012 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood. He will address the audience of elected or appointed County Treasurers and Tax Collectors within the State of California on the proliferation of cybercrime, including Internet banking fraud. The title of Dr. Stahl's presentation is "Credit Fraud & Cyber Attacks - What you can do to prevent, manage and identify."

"I'm particularly pleased to speak to County Treasurers, Tax Collectors and the Association's Associate Members from the financial services industry about how to be protected from cybercriminals. Cybercrime is rampant and a very serious threat to governmental and business organizations," said Dr. Stahl. "Yesterday's defenses don't work against today's sophisticated cyber-attacks. That's why ISSA-LA launched its Community Outreach Program with its emphasis on 'It takes the village to secure the village SM.'"

Bruce W. McConnell, Senior Counselor for Cybersecurity at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, stated recently at ISSA-LA's Annual Summit, "We say there are two kinds of companies: those that know they have been hacked, and those that don't yet know that they've been hacked." Dr. Stahl says that statement would include governmental agencies.

Dr. Stahl will emphasize to the attendees the particular challenges governmental organizations have with the rampant growth of online bank fraud and discuss basic steps an organization can take to lower its risk of being a victim. He will also outline ISSA-LA's work with nonprofits and financial institutions, helping them educate their stakeholders about the dangers of online bank fraud and the steps they can take to more effectively secure their online banking.

The California Association of County Treasurers and Tax Collectors Annual Conference will be held from June 12 through June 15, 2012 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel on 1755 North Highland Avenue in Hollywood.
