InZone Marketing Closing 2015, Focusing on 2016 Goals

InZone Marketing's director of operations and his team are prepared for a successful close to 2015, and looking toward goals for the upcoming year. He shared his goal-setting strategy.

“Successful business leaders know how important it is to set goals,” said Brian, the director of operations at InZone Marketing. “Goals give direction, inspire motivation and focus, and help gauge progress. Without objectives in place, it’s nearly impossible to work efficiently. Not only that, but if you can’t ensure that you’re moving forward, your business will be left in the dust in an instant. The marketplace is evolving far too quickly to rest on your laurels.”

Brian was also careful to point out that action is just as important as setting goals. “There’s no use putting milestones in place if you aren’t going to act on them,” he stated. “That’s where strategy comes into the picture. I find that it’s most helpful to identify long-term objectives, and then determine the smaller steps that must take place to move toward the big vision. These short-term achievements will help define your strategy. You can more effectively determine what resources you need, as well as what obstacles may arise. It’s also far less daunting that trying to transform a broad vision into reality. This approach works beautifully for us at InZone Marketing.”

InZone Marketing Director Discusses the Team’s Goal-Setting Method

Research has proven that business leaders who set goals are more likely to successfully achieve them. According to Brian, however, it’s not enough to randomly identify objectives. He and his colleagues at InZone Marketing use the SMART System. The acronym defines the best goals as being specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely.

“Goals must be concise and concrete,” Brian continued. “Don’t just say you want to make more money in the next year. Determine that you want to grow your revenue by a certain percentage. Make sure the number you come up with is attainable. Otherwise, you’ll set yourself up for failure. Also be sure you can assess your progress on a regular basis. For instance, figure out how much you want to bring in per month and quarter, compared to last year’s numbers.”

“Finally, don’t forget to record everything on paper,” Brian concluded. “Studies indicate that goals that have been written (or typed) are far more likely to come to fruition than those that haven’t been recorded. I’ve found this to be the most effective goal-setting system out there – in fact, I wouldn’t do it any other way.”
