International Computer Refurbisher Summit 2010

Over 150 Microsoft Registered Refurbishers (RRP), Microsoft Authorized Refurbishers (MAR) and friends from over 15 countries spent two days in Chicago sharing experiences and expertise. Frances Fawcett from Microsoft gave an update on the two reuse

The Summit focused on two main issues, building better programs and faster and more reliable refurbishment procedures. Pre-summit education events included advance Refurbisher Preinstall Kit (RPK) and an introduction to R2 certification presented by Perry Johnson Registrars.

Willie Cade, CEO of PCRR stated "I am thrilled that so many talented people were able to share state of the art refurbishment practices." Cade continued, "Paul Bessey from Batteries Plus brought new light on the real life span and reusability of laptop batteries." Chuck Newman from ReCellular shared his 20 plus years experience reusing cell phones. During his speech he noted that there were many similarities between refurbishing cell phones and computers.

PC Rebuilders & Recyclers, LLC

Founded in 2000, PC Rebuilders & Recyclers has a two-fold purpose of bridging the digital divide and supporting environmental responsibility through the refreshment of prematurely retired computer systems. PCRR was launched by Willie Cade in his basement. Since then it has grown into a 25,000 square foot refurbishing facility. To date our program has placed over 40,000 computers in schools, non-profit organizations and need-based homes proving that limited funding does not preclude access to technology.
