International Arborist Observes Cemetery Trees for Arbor Day

What started as a passing interest, became a passion; taking photos of cemeteries around the Midwest. But not just the gravestones - the cemetery trees can be just as interesting!

Blog writer, Joy Neighbors began taking photos in cemeteries several years ago. Last February she began a blog, A Grave Interest, http://agraveinterest.blogspot.com/ as a place to comment on and share cemetery history and lore, photos and genealogy information. Neighbors tries to tie her twice weekly blog into what actually happened on that date in history. Yesterday was Arbor Day. With that in mind, Neighbors contacted Certified International Arborist, Larry Caplan, and asked for comments on some of her cemetery tree pictures. The result is an interesting look at those odd and sometimes strange-looking trees seen, not just in cemeteries, but all around us.

Caplan is with the Purdue Extension Service of Vanderburgh County, Indiana. An Extension Horticulture Educator, a Certified Arborist and an Indiana Accredited Plantsman, he was also a founding member of the Indiana Forest Council. Caplan is also a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and performs over 50 magical horticultural lectures year.
