Hurricane Michael Relief: BetterHelp Offers Free Counseling Online to the 375,000 People Affected

BetterHelp, the world’s largest online counseling service, joins the national relief efforts, announcing today it will provide free counseling by a licensed therapist to anyone who was displaced or affected by Hurricane Michael.

“The aftermath of a disaster of such magnitude is not just physical but also emotional,” said Alon Matas, founder and president of BetterHelp. “Even after families are relocated into a safe place and homes are restored, many people continue to feel a tremendous mental burden for a long period of time.”

“Difficulty with sleep, inability to concentrate, feelings of anxiety and distress are just a few of the issues that can arise,” said Dr. Tracee Moore, a Florida-based psychologist who provides therapy through BetterHelp. “We can help those in disastrous circumstances rediscover a sense of normalcy and build coping and resilience skills needed to move from feelings of hopelessness to dealing with logistical and heart-rendering challenges in a healthy way. Counseling can be a stabilizing factor in helping you to feel supported and secure.”

Individuals can access the free counseling services at www.betterhelp.com/michaelrelief, a dedicated portal where they can get matched with a licensed therapist. They can then communicate with their therapist via messaging, phone and video sessions. All the counseling costs will be fully covered by BetterHelp.

“Sadly, this is the fourth time over the last 15 months that we had to offer such assistance,” said Matas. “Our experience with Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria have shown us how tremendously helpful this resource can be to the people who found themselves in this dire situation.”
