Hull Firefighters Receive State Of The Art IP Simulcast Two-Way Radio System
Online, December 8, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Hull fire department recently switched over to a new IP based simulcast two-way radio system to fill in weak coverage areas in town. A number of areas needed improved radio coverage and due to the unique topography of the peninsula a single transmit site could not provide the desired coverage. In addition, reliable in-building coverage was also specified by the fire department. To satisfy the very demanding coverage requirements an RSI-Tait simulcast system was selected by the town since it was offering the best performance and most economical design.
Hull firefighters are now operating on a state of the art IP network based simulcast radio system which provides a number of advantages when compared to a traditional radio system. The new radio system is unique for its ability to provide firefighters with familiar analog radios while still offering many of the benefits only found on P25 digital radio systems.
The IP based system has self monitoring technology that continuously reports on the condition of each radio site connection that is critical to the radio system. Two-way radio receiver sites with wireless broadband connectivity replaced phone lines that frequently failed and caused problems with the previous radio system. The new IP based simulcast system was designed with no single points of failure so if one of the connections experiences trouble the system can automatically reroute communications. With each receiver site connected to the robust network first responders are provided with reliable talk-in coverage from portable radios back to dispatchers.
RSI-Tait IP based simulcast transmitters have built in reliability features designed so if one transmitter goes down the other sites can continue to function independently. The high power efficiency of the Tait repeaters run for days on battery back up power in case of extended power outages. The real-time system monitoring allows technicians to remotely diagnose radio system problems within minutes of the problem being reported..
