Today, Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick announced important re-accreditations for two key academic component institutions, the College of Medicine and the College of Pharmacy.
The Howard University College of Medicine has been granted continued full accreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, or LCME. The LCME is the national accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to M.D. degrees in the United States and Canada.
Howard University President Dr. Frederick said:
"Earning full accreditation for the College of Medicine is another step in our commitment to educating tomorrow's physicians who will practice medicine in communities across the country. Maintaining full accreditation is a strong indication of our compliance and creativity in building our medical education program to be among the best in the nation."
The LCME accrediting team noted the College of Medicine's strong commitments to diversity, providing academic assistance to students, and meeting the health care needs of under-served communities.
The Howard University College of Pharmacy has been awarded full re-accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, or ACPE. The ACPE is the national standard-setting organization for professional degrees in the education of pharmacists.
