Who says that your vote doesn't count? On Saturday, February 5th, the people have the final say on how far the play Mismatched Socks advances in the Strawberry One-Act Festival as it competes against two other plays under "Series G". Many will be attending the Hudson Guild Theatre in NYC to find out the answer to this underlying question: Will it be sex, laundry or both? This heartfelt comedy, written and directed by Melissa Kuch, will answer that question and more.

The Strawberry One-Act Festival is the brainchild of Artistic Director, Van Dirk Fisher, and it is a play competition in which the audience and the theatre's judges cast their votes to select the best play of the season. Twice a year, hundreds of plays from across the country are submitted for the competition. Plays move from the 1st Round to the Semi-Finals and then the Finals. The playwright of the winning play receives $1,500.00 and the opportunity to have a full-length play developed by the Riant.

Playwright Melissa Kuch is no stranger to the Strawberry One-Act Festival having advanced to the Semi-Finals with her play Tea Under the Lilac Tree back in the Winter 2009 festival. This year Mismatched Socks will also mark her directorial debut. This production features the talents of Will Cooper, Diana Carolina, Christina Orloff and Jeremy Barlow. The play tells the story of an engaged couple, Walter & Matilda, who recently moved in together and come home one night on completely two different wavelengths. When Walter's brother Joe and perfect sister in-law Laurie show up unexpectedly, they will really stir things up.

Kuch says, "The audience will be able to relate with these characters. The main couple, Walter and Matilda, cope with real problems that any relationship faces. Getting stuck in a routine, trust issues, communication barriers and jealousy. Through one crazy and unexpected night, they come to terms with how they are going to break out of this cycle and rise above it."

By taking a comedic approach to this play, Mismatched Socks takes on the reality of these issues but also helps to highlight the love that these characters have for each other.
