Hope for Haiti Celebrates the Inauguration of New School Block at the Roger Dunwell Community School of Tête L’Étang
NEW YORK, June 26, 2024 (Newswire.com) - Hope for Haiti is proud to announce the inauguration of a new school block at the Roger Dunwell Community School of Tête L’Étang today, a significant milestone in their mission to improve education in Haiti. Despite the recent cycle of challenges the country has faced, this new school block symbolizes hope and progress for the community.
Construction was completed through support from a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, reflecting their ongoing commitment to education and community development. This new building will provide a safe, child-friendly, conducive learning environment and allow for higher enrollment, ensuring children in the community of Tête L’Étang have access to quality education and the resources they need to succeed.
The school, named the Roger Dunwell Community School of Tête L’Étang, stands in memory of the late hotelier and humanitarian, Roger Dunwell. His legacy lives on through the continued support of the Dunwell/Assad family, whose support has been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.
Skyler Badenoch, CEO of Hope for Haiti, shared his thoughts on this momentous occasion: "The inauguration of the new school block at the Roger Dunwell Community School of Tête L’Étang is a testament to the resilience and strength of the Haitian people. Despite the many challenges Haiti has faced, we continue to witness progress and positive change. This school block represents hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for the children and families of Tête L’Étang. We are immensely grateful to the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Dunwell/Assad family for their steadfast support and dedication to improving education in Haiti."
“Hope For Haiti’s Education School Network is an example of one of Haiti’s pockets of hope,” said Alix Cantave, senior program officer at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. “Despite significant challenges, there is a realistic sentiment of hope driven by school leaders, teachers, parents and students to improve Haiti’s education system and increase access to quality education. The new school block at the Roger Dunwell Community School of Tête L’Étang will improve student retention, learning, health outcomes and support the creation of safe school environments in the Southwest Corridor of Haiti by implementing recommendations of a five-year strategic plan focused on teacher development, school leadership, parent involvement and educational support.”
Hope for Haiti began partnering with the community in 2008 through water, sanitation, & hygiene (WASH) projects, and began providing support for teachers in 2010 through salary support and teacher training. Hope for Haiti also provides the school with funds through its Back-to-School Initiative to purchase school supplies and complete small repairs to school facilities and furniture.
This project underscores the belief that meaningful, impactful work continues to be completed in Haiti amidst the challenges. The dedication and commitment of Hope for Haiti’s partners and supporters make these successes achievable, inspiring hope and optimism for the future. The inauguration of the new school block at the Roger Dunwell Community School of Tête L’Étang is a significant step towards achieving this goal, empowering the next generation through education.
