Hollister Construction Services Launches Work On Three-Story Addition To Charter School Building In Jersey City, N.J.

Hollister Construction Services has begun work on a three-story addition for the BelovED Community Charter School, an elementary school for K-3rd grade students located at 508 Grand Street in Jersey City, N.J.

Hollister Construction Services (Hollister), a leading full-service construction manager specializing in corporate, educational, healthcare, industrial, retail, and residential construction, has begun work on a three-story addition for the BelovED Community Charter School, an elementary school for K-3rd grade students located at 508 Grand Street in Jersey City, N.J.

The BelovED Community Charter School takes its name from a quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who said, "Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives." The school is located in a 12-year-old building that was formerly the site of the Schomburg Charter School. The 22,388-square-foot addition to the existing structure will comprise new classrooms, an exercise room, cafeteria, art room and nurse's office. Urbahn Architects completed the design, with project management led by Robert Sander of Hollister Construction.

"Hollister is a strong supporter of the charter school movement, so it is especially gratifying to be involved in a significant project that addresses the needs of underserved children," said Christopher A. Johnson, Chief Executive Officer. "Our extensive experience as construction managers for educational projects allowed us to value engineer components and construction methods used in the new addition, ultimately providing enough savings to allow the school to refine their design and add an additional full floor."

As a general contractor, construction manager and design builder, Hollister continues to be a leader in education construction, completing dozens of educational projects throughout New Jersey and New York. Most recently, these projects include the management of diverse capital improvement expenditures for Fairleigh Dickinson University; phase one of a building addition and renovation for University Heights Charter School; the ground-up construction of a 63,855-square-foot charter high school for Team Academy located in Newark; and the Scott Flamm Center For Afterschool Development, a comprehensive renovation project located at 33 Washington Street in Newark.
