Holiday Season Begins at Hotel Galvez with Galveston Holiday Lighting Celebration

This free family event begins at 6 p.m. and marks the start of the holiday season in Galveston. As part of the evening, Hotel Galvez will accept monetary donations for the Salvation Army to help those in need.

The Holiday Lighting Celebration begins with the arrival of Santa Claus by horse-drawn carriage, followed by the lighting of the hotel's 35-foot Christmas tree on the front lawn. KHOU-TV's Lily Jang will emcee the evening as guests are entertained by the Galveston Ballet, Galveston College Community Chorale, Moody Festival Ringers and "The Island Piper" Clyde Wood. Dickens on The Strand's Queen Victoria, Galveston Mayor Pro-Tem Rusty Legg and the Nesquik Bunny from Nestle Toll House Cafe will also make special appearances during the festivities. Additionally, children can have photos taken with Santa and receive a small gift. Photos with Santa by Rhea's Photographic Art will be available for purchase. Inside the hotel, Executive Chef Antonio Rodriguez and his staff invite guests to see the hotel's gingerbread display. The Galveston Holiday Lighting Celebration is hosted by hotel owner George Mitchell and the Mitchell Family and Hotel Galvez & Spa.

On Saturday, Nov. 24, Galveston's historic downtown will sparkle as Saengerfest Park hosts the inaugural Lasers, Lights and Magic in the Park Celebration. Saengerfest Park transforms into a holiday marvel with music, a special appearance by Santa Claus, and highlighted by a holiday-themed laser light show. To add to the fun, visitors can send text messages to make it snow in tropical Galveston. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. and are free to the public. Lasers, Lights and Magic in the Park continues through Dec. 31 and offers a daily 15-minute holiday themed laser light show at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.
