The Coalition, which has support from the National 911 Program Office and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), announced a nationwide goal: "By the end of the year 2020 all 911 systems and centers in all 56 states and territories will have sufficiently funded, standards-based, end-to-end, IP-based 911 capabilities, and will have retired legacy 911 systems, without any degradation in service to the public."
To meet this goal, every public safety answering point (PSAP) will need to be equipped to seamlessly handle texts, photos, videos, and other digital information sent by the public to the 911 network and allow that information to flow to first responders in the field.
"At Hitech Systems, Inc., we fully support this goal," Blanks explained. "We believe that this goal is necessary for keeping up with modern technology and for creating a safer society in the future."
