Helen A. Polding's New Book "Pets at the Parsonage" is a Colorful Collection of Anecdotes Featuring the Many Animals the Author Knew and Loved During Years of Ministry.

"Pets at the Parsonage" from author Helen A. Polding is a series of true stories depicting the adventures, misadventures, lessons learned, and love shared between the author's family and the many pets they encountered and lived with during their stay in church-provided parsonages in their years-long traveling ministry to cities such as New York, Ivory Coast, Paris, Illinois, and Minnesota.

Helen A. Polding, who with her husband, Fred, has grown up with animals and has spent over fifty years in ministry, has completed her new book, “Pets at the Parsonage”:  an engaging selection of animal stories from the author’s time in ministry.

Helen shares, “I’m sure God brought Shep into our lives shortly after the death of Toni and the disappearance of Cuddles. Fred and I were still struggling with childlessness, and our pets, though trying at times, gave our home a less empty feeling.

Missionary friends from Mali, a country to the north from ours, had a purebred German shepherd who gave birth to five pups. They were looking for homes for them. Mali, at that time, was experiencing a famine due to a long-term drought. It did not seem morally right for them to ask any of their Malian colleagues to care for a dog that would need a lot of food in a country where people were struggling to provide food for families.

They brought their pups to Ivory Coast where economic conditions were better and where many of the Ivorians kept dogs for protection. The better economic situation in Ivory Coast, unfortunately, brought unsavory people into the country who, rather than work for their needs, formed themselves into gangs of thieves.”
