Hekaia.com - Every Stitch Changes a Syrian Refugee's Story. Announcing 100 Women Helped

Hekaia in Syrian means story. With the world attention focused on the strife in Syria, Hekaia.com, a social enterprise aiding Syrian refugees in Turkey is announcing that they've now helped change the story of over 100 women through the sales of hand stitched toys and clothes.

Quality of Stitch Equals Quality of Life

Founded by two Syrian women, themselves refugees to Turkey, the founders Marwa Issa & Fatima Hayek wanted to find a way to help women regain their independence and rebuild a better quality of life.   With the help and support of the Syrian Business Club, they started Hekaia, which trains women to make beautiful and unique hand crafted dolls and clothing, and sells them online.  The profits go towards paying the Syrian refugees in Turkey a living wage, providing community support, and training more women to take part in the program.  "The situation for many families in Turkey is very desperate." Said Marwa, "The women (and their families) we help are subject to poverty, starvation, harassment, and abuse."

"We are pleased to launch Hekaia in North America. Every purchase through Hekaia.com helps change one woman's story. We hope to help thousands by next year."
